Sunset Boulevard has had a thousand lives and is chalk full of new ones evolving out of secret buildings where there is a hilt of gloss with floral gown-length costumes quickly tilted with messy classic Adidas and bed head. The nature of LA style lies in the fact that it is elusive, a day could mean your feet are in salt water by sunrise and your eyes are glazing over Chateau Marmont in the evening to find a barman to mix another dry martini. Perhaps you are still wearing your bikini as an underpinning and pulled a vintage lame dress out of your overstuffed bag. LA has the gift of truly effortless style as the pragmatic rarely sits front row, with warm flower air most days, decisions are made out of mood. A sharp shouldered boyfriend blazer swings over a long pleated skirt and real cowboy boots, real because they were procured from a Western store likely in an impossible to find strip mall. LA is the new new. Dover Street Market recently opened its doors with installations and designer choices that unfold like a surreal story. Housed in a warehouse, the high dose of artistry almost reads like abandoned glamour inside. And there is irony with easy smiles, a decidedly West Coast attitude. Edie Campbell was tapped to document the opening on Instagram as she is infamous for her naughty street girl approach, reminding us a silver suit head to toe should be worn with fuzzy pink heels and a tipping glass of champagne. LA has turned into a mecca of art and culture in the last ten years and with that change comes an International injection of fashion.
